“First of all, love that your using ruby/rails.. great stuff. I would suggest using a 2 color scheme.. white on white doesnt work very well.. either have the background darker or the foreground. Also lose the shadow and the rounded corners.. their not necessary. The icons are big but thats not the main problem. most people are used to certain icons and plus there are plenty of free quality icons you could use.

Thanks for the reply and advice! Since I posted the link to ezLearnz, I’ve been working on the next iteration of it, which you can see here: http://alpha.ezlearnz.com/index-view-loggedin (make sure to follow the links in the page). As you can see, I’ve gotten rid of the shadow and rounded corners.
I am going to choose a color scheme from kuler.adobe.com, but that’s something I’ll do a bit later, probably. I am also experimenting with a different background, but it’s something I haven’t got nailed down yet.
I’ve been loath to give up the icons, since I made them myself in inkscape, but that’s one stumbling block that has consistently been commented on in the feedback that I’ve recieved; I plan to get rid of them in favor of plain links.
Please keep the feedback coming, I’d be greatful! However, since I’ve quit y4j, please use the comments below to keep the conversation going, if you’re inclined.
